Potential bookparty event?

The month of April is “Keep Toronto Reading” month. Maybe we can go to one of these events as a group - any takers?

Event schedule: http://keeptorontoreading.ca/events/calendar/2009-04

How about this one for the ladies? History of the High Heel The Bata Shoe Museum curator Elizabeth Semmelhack presents a history of the elevated shoe in her new book, Heights of Fashion. Wednesday, April 22, 2009 7:00pm @ Toronto Reference Library

The Island of Misfit Books

Q: What books have you started reading but never finished - and why?

  1. The Satanic Verses by Salman Rushdie - too long and convoluted. I see it as a challenge though, so I might make another attempt at some point.

  2. Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond - really interesting, but for some reason I haven’t been able to finish it despite trying 3 times. I always get to the middle, and then I get distracted by another, easier-to-read book.

(10 points if you got the reference to Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and the Island of Misfit Toys)

bookparty poll

When reading a book with footnotes/endnotes, do you: A) Read every footnote/endnote each time one comes up and feel a sense of accomplishment for being so thorough; B) Start off by diligently reading every footnote/endnote but then get lazy and skip them after a while; or C) Skip all of the footnotes/endnotes and feel relieved that having them there means that you have less text to read?? Post your vote in the comments and be judged accordingly.

The more you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go. Dr. Seuss
